Aldea

Destilerías Aldea, founded in 1936 by Don Manuel Quevedo Alemán, is a family-owned rum distillery with deep roots in the Canary Islands, originally established on Gran Canaria and now located in the idyllic bay of Puerto Espindola on the island of La Palma. The company is proudly managed by the fourth generation of the Quevedo family, who maintain a steadfast commitment to traditional craftsmanship and authentic rum production.

Unlike many rum producers who rely on molasses, Aldea is distinguished by its use of pure sugar cane juice, known as "guarapo", which is pressed from locally grown cane. This method, inherited from Caribbean distillation traditions, preserves the natural sweetness and complex aromas of the cane, resulting in a richly nuanced and high-quality rum. Aldea’s location, surrounded by sugar cane plantations and overlooking the sea, plays a vital role in the unique maturation process of its rums.

The brand’s heritage is intertwined with the history of rum production in the Canary Islands, marked by periods of boom and bust that the Quevedo family navigated with resilience and dedication. Aldea is renowned for crafting boutique rums, including their celebrated aged expressions and their signature Ron Miel, a honey-infused rum that harmoniously blends smoothness with the natural flavours of the island.

By preserving traditional methods and embracing the natural bounty of La Palma, Destilerías Aldea embodies a true island spirit—a blend of history, culture, and artisanal passion—making it a revered name within the Canary Islands rum industry and beyond.
